Psychological Assessments

What is a psychological assessment?

Psychological assessments can be valuable tools for identifying your personal strengths and areas of growth. They can be utilized to provide more information about how your symptoms, behaviors, and emotions impact your day-to-day life, whether that is at school, at work, or with your family/loved ones.

These assessments can determine cognitive functioning, narrow down symptoms and their impact on your well-being, and identify personality factors that may influence your daily interactions in a variety of settings.

The results can clarify a diagnosis, guide treatment goals for individual therapy, or aid you in receiving accommodations for school or work.

How is it done?

Depending on your individual case and goals, I will create an “assessment battery” that includes a variety of tools aimed at addressing your specific concerns. Typically, a psychological assessment will be conducted both in-person and virtually, depending on what tools are used. All virtual sessions will be conducted using a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform to ensure all your personal information remains confidential. If in-person sessions are needed, I will do my best to identify a location that is convenient for you and ensures we have a quiet, confidential space.

Assessment batteries typically take 1 - 2 sessions (approximately 2 - 4 hours each) and may include in-depth interviews focused on your specific concerns as well as hands-on activities. I may request additional information from other sources, including medical records, school records, or collateral contacts (i.e., family/friends who can provide personal insights on what they observe). This is only done with your permission and the information gathered is used to paint a clearer picture of what is going on and better determine the next steps.

Once we have completed testing and I have received any relevant records, it can take me up to 4 weeks to complete your report. At that point, I will schedule a feedback session with you to review your results and recommendations for next steps.
